Electro-Technical Officer · Philippines

Sigfred Vincent Larot.Building practical AI and software products.

I build practical systems at the intersection of engineering, software, and real-world operations — from maritime technical expertise to AI-powered tools, offline systems, and products designed for actual use.

Selected work

Projects built for real conditions

Tools I've designed or am actively building. Most are shaped by problems I've seen up close — on the bridge, in the engine room, or in the lives of the people who work around them.

In Progress

AI-assisted situational awareness for the bridge watch.

Sea.Lookout is a concept for an AI-assisted situational awareness system aimed at the navigational watch. It explores how computer vision and lightweight alerting can back up — never replace — the trained human eye on the bridge, helping identify vessels, floating objects, and navigational hazards under practical shipboard conditions.

Budgeting and wage clarity for Filipino workers.

SweldoWise is a budgeting and personal-finance companion built around the realities of Philippine payroll practice — take-home pay, SSS/PhilHealth/HDMF/tax deductions, overtime and night-differential computations — presented so the numbers make sense to the person actually getting paid.

AI-enabled review for marine engineering licensure.

BoardPilot is a structured study companion for marine engineering licensure candidates. It combines curated question banks, spaced review, and AI-generated explanations grounded in the actual scope of the PRC examinations — not generic test-prep boilerplate.

Local LLM Q&A over technical ship manuals.

An on-board assistant that answers questions against vendor manuals, maker instructions, and planned-maintenance procedures without leaving the vessel's network. Runs a local model over indexed PDFs so engineers can query equipment documentation even with no satellite link.

Background

An engineer at sea, building on shore.

I work as an Electro-Technical Officer aboard merchant vessels — responsible for the electrical, electronic, and control systems that keep a ship running. Between contracts, and often during them, I design and ship software: focused tools, practical AI, nothing for its own sake.

More about me
  • Tools that hold up under real operating conditions.
  • AI where it meaningfully shortens a workflow — not where it decorates one.
  • Small, well-scoped systems over sprawling platforms.

What I work with

Skills and focus

A short, honest list. If it isn't here, I probably don't claim it.

Maritime Systems

  • Ship electrical systems
  • Automation & monitoring
  • Navigation & communication equipment
  • Planned maintenance & fault diagnosis

AI Applications

  • Retrieval-augmented generation
  • Local / offline LLMs (Ollama)
  • Embeddings + vector search
  • Practical prompt design

Software

  • TypeScript
  • Next.js / React
  • Node.js
  • Python
  • PostgreSQL
  • React Native / Expo

Computer Vision

  • Object detection
  • Model deployment to edge
  • OpenCV pipelines
  • ONNX / lightweight inference

Product Prototyping

  • Problem framing
  • Scope discipline
  • Technical documentation
  • Rapid iteration

Operations Mindset

  • Works under real constraints
  • Tolerant of intermittent connectivity
  • Failure-mode thinking
  • Honest scoping

Open to collaborations and technical opportunities.

I take on a small number of engineering and AI projects each year — mostly practical, often maritime-adjacent. Happy to talk if the problem is concrete.
